If there is one term that captures the full flavour of everything that happened in recent times, it is ‘financialisation,’ says Sushil K. Sharma in Wings of Wax (Stratadigm). He cites a definition of the word by Greta Krippner of the Sociology Department at the University of California at Los Angeles, thus: “A pattern of accumulation in which profit making occurs increasingly through financial channels rather than thr ough trade and commodity production.”
