Subsidise fresh fruits and vegetables

While taxing non-nutritious foods may not be practicable, it may be a good idea to subsidise the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, suggests Alok Bhargava in Food, Economics, and Health. Grocery stores can discount fresh (or day-old) fruits and vegetables for those receiving food-aid, and such policies will ensure a greater supply of micronutrients for children in such households, he recommends.
