Inequality destroyed the spirit of community and mutual concern

Gandhian Way

Something that particularly worried Gandhiji was inequality, because he was of the view that inequality destroyed the spirit of community and mutual concern that every society required. “The rich saw the poor as virtually a different species, an embarrassment and a threat. They held them in contempt, were indifferent to their needs and had no interest in distributive justice. This was repeatedly brought home to Gandhi by his futile appeals to the rich for help with h is Constructive Programme,” writes Bhikhu Parekh in one of the essays included in Gandhian Way ( http://www.academicfoundation.com/).
